Graphic books in the Classroom

There’s an upcoming webinar from Booklist that  looks really interesting, titled Let’s Get Graphic: Kid’s Comics in Classrooms and Libraries. It will be held on April 29 at 1:00 pm CST. You can register here.

When working on the I.N.K. teaching guides, I researched how students respond to graphic nonfiction in the classroom. I found that it is great material for struggling or reluctant readers. The graphic visuals provide visual comprehension clues, making them useful for visual and second-language learners. Besides, graphic nonfiction is just fun to read. I’m looking forward to hearing what’s presented in this webinar.

Perfect for students of all learning levels, this teacher-requested resource includes 70 standards-based activities that use age-appropriate jokes, riddles, and comics to reinforce irregular spelling patterns, word families, prefixes and suffixes, & more!
